Soon, a colony of affordable houses in Gurugram sector 9

GURUGRAM: The Haryana Housing Board has decided to construct houses for people from the
economically weaker sections (EWS) in Sector 9 on HSVP land.
The proposed houses will be allotted to below poverty line (BPL) families and beneficiaries will
be identified through Parivar Pehchan Patra (PPP), housing board officials said.
Urban Local Bodies minister Kamal Gupta on Friday inspected the land identified by HSVP for
the housing scheme and directed officials of Haryana Housing Board to prepare the plan for the
housing scheme. On the lines of PM Awas Yojana, the Haryana government has now
announced “CM Awas Yojana” to provide housing to the poor and needy.
“Under this scheme, we are aiming to provide a roof to all below poverty line families,” Gupta
said. The state government is conducting a survey and those who are below the poverty line will
be eligible for housing under the scheme. The beneficiaries will be identified through PPP.
The low cost housing for EWS families had been approved by HSVP in October 2009, under its
integrated housing and slum dwellers programme (IHSDP), to provide hygienic living space with
basic amenities to slum dwellers.
Under it, HUDA constructed around 9,990 low-cost units in urban areas of the state,
including Gurgaon and Faridabad, with allotment preference given to encroachers of
government land who had approached courts for regularisation of the existing colonies and
providing alternative shelter before eviction.
A total of 1,088 units were constructed in the city at the cost of Rs 40 crore, first lot of 560 units
was constructed in 2010 while another 528 units were constructed in 2014-15 but till date not a
single flat has been allotted, mainly due to controversy over allotment eligibility.
“Eligible people can make payment in easy instalments for 20 years,” said an official, adding
that these flats cannot be given on rent and sold out for at least 20 years.
