Gurugram RWAs ask Haryana CM for legal recognition

GURUGRAM: Several RWAs of the city met chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday for
legal recognition and empowerment. They gave a memorandum seeking his intervention in
recognising them as a statutory body.
They argued that some resident associations have proven very effective in managing local
issues and supporting administrations in better management of the city. “The RWAs have been
playing a vital role in ensuring development and welfare activities locally. The government
should legally recognise us,” said Lalit Suraj Bhola, the RWA general secretary of Sector 9A.
In addition to this, they want the residents’ body of the plotted colonies to be allowed to raise
bills for value-added services such as security and waste management among others. At
present, there is no provision in the HRRS Act, 2012 that empowers RWAs of plotted colonies to
raise bills as CAM or VAS.

Chaitali Mandhotra, RWA member of Ardee City said, “RWAs need to be authorised to raise bills
to run security arrangements, in-house waste management, etc. Government needs to make
necessary amendments in law to allow us to raise bills for VAS.”
