Gurugram civic body holds camps in societies to boost property tax collection

GURUGRAM: The Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) organised two camps at Nirvana
Country and Spaze iTech Park at Sohna Road and collected around Rs 1.75 lakh of property tax
on Tuesday.
With only two months left to the current fiscal year, the MCG is organising property tax camps to
increase its collection.
The civic body has also scheduled camps at other residential societies and commercial units.

“Nearly 75 residents turned up at the property tax camp held at Nirvana Country, and 20 queries
got addressed at the Spaze iTech Park. There are 522 commercial units at Spaze iTech Park,
and a majority of those who enquired about the tax said that they would file it online. The tax
collection camps are also part of an awareness campaign about the tax rebate offered by the
government. We have planned such camps in February and March at different residential and
commercial spaces,” said Sameer Srivastava, zonal taxation officer 4, MCG.
The state government has decided to give a one-time waiver on the interest payments on
property tax dues from 2010-11 to 2020-21 till March 31, 2022.
The property tax camps will be held at Vatika City in Sector 49 and Emerald Plaza in Sector 65
on February 3.
Malibu Town and Universal Trade Tower in Sector 49 will have their camps on February 5.
The MCG had estimated to generate a revenue of Rs 1,235 crore, including arrears of Rs 1,011
crore, in the 2021-22 fiscal year. However, it has managed to collect only Rs 134.99 crore so far.
The civic body had collected around Rs 250 crore in property tax in the last fiscal year and Rs 3
crore in property tax in January.
