Faridabad civic body closes gate of society with 3,000 flats, says it is built built on govt’s land

GURUGRAM: Residents of Charmwood Village society at Gurugram-Faridabad border, which is spread over 30 acres of land with 3,000 apartments, four schools, one hospital, and several clinics and markets, are now confined to using only one gate for entry and exit. This is because the Municipal Corporation of Faridabad (MCF) has sealed one of the two gates, claiming encroachment of corporation land around it by the developer.

Officials said the gate in question was sealed after the builder failed to respond to a notice served by the corporation. While causing grave inconvenience to the residents, the sealing of the gate is also causing traffic snarls near the second gate, located barely 2km away, on Surajkund-Badkhal Road which further connects to Mehrauli-Badarpur Road.

Nisha Wadhera, a resident of the society, told TOI, “I live in C1 block, which is near the gate that is currently open. But there is always a massive traffic jam at the gate. So, my driver had to drop me off at the sealed gate and I will now have to walk all the way to my block in this humid weather to reach home. We are facing a lot of inconvenience. The corporation suddenly got up from a deep slumber after 30 years.”

Residents claimed that the MCF officials, in the presence of a tehsildar, first dug up the road
outside the gate and then sealed it on July 27. “We are now restricted to using only one gate
which the residents of nearby colonies also use to take a shortcut. We are facing a lot of
inconvenience for the misdeeds of the builder,” said Mahendra Kumar Gupta, convener of all
RWAs, Charmwood Village.
“Anyway, the MCF commissioner has assured us that the gate will be opened in two days and
that deadline is over. We have called a meeting of the RWAs on Sunday and will decide on a
future course of action,” he added.
When contacted, MCF commissioner Yashpal Yadav said, “The land on which the gate stands
belongs to the corporation. We clearly told the builder around four months ago that the gate and
the road had been built illegally on the MCF land. He was told that either he should pay up for
the MCF land or the corporation will seal the gate. However, he did not pay up. So we have now
taken back possession of our land.”
When contacted, an official of the Eros Group, the developer, said, “These allegations are
baseless. The society was established 40 years ago and they suddenly realise that it is MCF’s
land.”
