South Delhi civic body seals 18 properties over tax default

NEW DELHI: Intensifying its drive against property tax defaulters, South Delhi Municipal Corporation on Tuesday sealed 18 commercial properties for not paying the outstanding property tax of Rs 1.2 crore.

A senior SDMC official said the assessment and collection department took suo motu cognisance and initiated the sealing action under Section 123 of Delhi Municipal Corporation Act.

“The department, south zone, took action against the commercial properties at MG Road in Ghitorni of Aya Nagar ward, as the owners of these properties failed to deposit the property tax. The department had earlier served notices for outstanding amount,” the spokesperson said.

Another official said under Section 123D of the DMC Act, the department had issued notices to 17,500 commercial properties in south zone.
