Gurugram civic body razes illegal building with 30 flats near ammunition depot

GURUGRAM: The enforcement team of MCG on Saturday demolished a building with 30 apartments
being illegally constructed in Sukhrali Enclave. The area falls in the restricted zone around the Indian Air
Force ammunition depot, where construction is prohibited.
The MCG commissioner also suspended and ordered the filing of a chargesheet against a junior engineer
for not taking timely action against the illegal construction.
The enforcement team first went to demolish the illegal building on May 11, but only razed only a part of
it where the small flats were being constructed.
After MCG chief PC Meena noticed that the building was not entirely razed, he ordered its complete
demolition and suspended the junior engineer for negligence.

The building is spread over 500 square yards, and one-room and two-room residential units were being
constructed.
“On the directions of the commissioner, the three-storey building was demolished on Saturday by a team
led by joint commissioner Vijay Yadav. Construction in the area is prohibited as it falls under the
restricted zone of the ammunition depot. The commissioner has directed officials to take timely action
against illegal construction across the city,” MCG spokesperson SS Rohilla told TOI.
Officials said an FIR will also be lodged against the owner of the building for carrying out unauthorised
construction in the area. They advised the public to be careful before buying flats in these colonies, where
sale and purchase of properties is illegal.

Electricity, water and sewerage connections are not provided in these colonies and registries too are not
done, since these are illegal properties. “People shouldn’t buy houses or shops illegally built in these
colonies. Our enforcement teams have been directed to demolish other such buildings, if any, in the area,” a senior MCG official said.
